Does Montrose Need Another Church?

That was a great question for the team of 9 adults (plus kids) who moved from central Minnesota in the summer of '04 to plant Cedar Creek Church. Joining them was a group of 9 other adults who had been praying for church in this community for a few years.

Convinced that Montrose didn't need a "better" church where we would grow because people found something we did "better", we believed that God called us to be a "different" church. And so we began building our DNA with serving our community.

That first fall we did a free car wash, cleaned up after the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, and began looking for other ways to bring the love and life of Christ to Montrose.

In December of '04 we outgrew the Pugh's living room on Sunday mornings though we hadn't begun anything formal yet. On Easter of '05 we held our first public preview service and had 100 people show up (that week we watched 5000 Easter Eggs be found in 2 minutes at our Easter Egg hunt for the community).

By October we had outgrown the Region 10 building (at that time the home of Rocky Mountain International Academy) and had our public launch at the Holiday Inn Express. Since then we've moved around and grown, but eventually found a home at 511 E Main St. (the old Masonic Temple building) the summer of '08.

Throughout our short history, however, we have not lost sight of God's original purpose for Cedar Creek...that we would be making disciples for Jesus Christ by reaching out to and meeting needs of the unchurched, building up believers in their walk with Christ, equipping our body to minister to others, and multiplying ministries, leaders, and churches.
